Butterflies + Fall Dresses.
The mercy of not knowing and signs that encourage us to keep going + a few fall dresses for any occasion.
I used to be scared of butterflies when I was a kid. (Have you ever seen one up close? Look it up and you’ll understand).
Once I outgrew that irrational fear, I’ve since seen butterflies as God’s little gift to me, telling me to keep going.
Seriously, this all started when my uncle painted me a butterfly painting for my 19th birthday. This painting is beloved to me, and has lived with me in every place I’ve called home (minus my 4-month hiatus in Italy).
I don’t know if I read too much into “signs,” but when I turned 21 my junior year in college, I went through a serious phase of letting butterflies encourage me. I would walk on the track right by my sorority house and see them all over that fall, hoping and praying for more and more signs.
Well, I’m 23 now, and still counting on those little creatures. Still counting on God to show me the way, to guide me after I’ve already stepped into the thick of it. To act and to answer my prayers when I have no idea what I’m doing.
I was listening recently to Erika Kirk’s Mercy of Not Knowing meditation on her podcast. (Listen if you haven’t)! She speaks beautifully about King David, about how his reign was not immediately preceded by his greatest public triumph in defeating Goliath. Rather, it was preceded by his greatest private trial in the caves. There, he was molded and prepared for leadership in God’s image, quietly, for years and years, not knowing what would come next. That is where he became the most royal. Erika poses the question —
What does it look like to be faithful today? Just today?
I was praying over this one morning about a week ago, feeling somewhat anxious about the future and I looked up and saw a butterfly!
Keep Going.
Let this be a sign to us that God never forgets the little things that remind us of His love, even if we forget them.
What does it look like for you to be faithful today? Who knows? God might just send you a butterfly!
